Relaxing Roof Terrace
This roof top garden was built for a company whose busy staff have to deal with a lot of daily pressure, so they were keen to install a place for the staff to rest and relax during their down time. Despite the limited outside space available on the roof we set out to build them just that. In addition to being a relaxation space it was essential that the roof terrace could also be used for occasional events. The resulting design, with integrated seating and open spaces, ensures this mix of relaxation and entertainment. The main materials used within the garden are Granite paving which gives the space a sleek modern look, composite decking to divide different zones within the roof garden, and grey fibreglass planters. The bespoke benches are made from mild steel and Iroko wood. The prairie style planting creates a wonderful calming sound as the Stipa tenuissima grasses sway in the breeze. The purple from the Salvia "Caradonna" and Verbena bonariensis add a blast of colour throughout the garden, while the beautiful old olive tree, stunning cloud-pruned topiary and other shrubs add structure all year round. The garden is much loved by the occupiers of the building with the insects also loving and benefitting from the striking wildflower meadow!
Country Garden with a Touch of Los Angeles
This beautiful large garden in the heart of Surrey combines influences from the client's love of Los Angeles together with a touch of English romance. The long Haddonstone balustrade edging the pristine white patio accentuates that Los Angeles feeling while the garden, mostly laid to lawn but with design features extending out from the house, contributes the softness of English romance. The significant features in the garden include a white wooden pergola planted up with David Austin roses for supplying that quintessential English feeling, a vegetable garden, magnificent topiary and two different water features. The topiary around the house brings a sense of grandeur to the garden as well as providing year-round structure - consisting of continuous Buxus knots accented with Buxus balls, large Carpinus columns and Taxus pyramids. Imported from Italy and bespoke made for the client, the magnificant water feature at the front of the house in the centre of the driveway represents a Swan's wing as it glides across the water. A second water feature at the rear of the property brings some classic style and elegance to the garden with a gentle rill flowing down to a bubbling fountain through regimented lines of full standard cubed Carpinus trees. Not only did Clifton Nurseries have the pleasure and privilege of building this garden, but we also now have the pleasure of watching it grow as our gardening team maintain the garden every week to keep it looking at its best.
Relaxing City Garden
The client's brief for the front garden of this imposing townhouse in Kensington was to create a garden with 'kerb appeal' to enhance the setting of the property and create a beautiful point of arrival. The striking main structure of this front garden is two linear granite water features. The water floods across the surface of the tables and then drops gently from one end, creating a wonderful background noise of trickling water. The water features are softened simply with large Ilex crenata balls and soft lavender. Available space has been maximised in the small rear courtyard by using the wall for plants in the form of a luscious living wall. A feature Japanese maple is precisely planted and framed by the window to provide a constantly changing scene throughout the seasons. A stunning hand-crafted granite feature enhances the other side of the courtyard. As the water moves over the surface, the water reacts differently to the changing surface creating a constantly shifting pattern. Lush foliage plants edge the water pool and seating area, creating a relaxing oasis in the heart of the city. The insects and other wildlife are also catered for in this beautiful garden with the addition of a green roof for the bin cupboard.
Large Surrey Garden
Tucked away on the edge of Woking in Surrey is this beautifully presented garden on a multitude of levels. Having the garden on a severe slope had its fair share of challenges, but has now given the client a good choice of rooms throughout the garden to be used for every occasion. The space was perfectly designed for a large family of all ages, with its relocated swimming pool, formal dining area, designated table tennis space, and lounge sofa room. Right on trend, the perfectly laid rustic brick pavers and smooth sawn Yorkstone capturethe essence of modern style blended with traditional.
Knightsbridge Japanese Roof Terrace
Following the complete interior renovation of a handsome Georgian property in London with the views out to the garden room being framed as part of the split level interior, this small roof terrace forms an important centrepiece within the house. Large square paving has been laid on an angle to the walls to provide a more dynamic space and make the garden room feel larger. By painting the walls white and having a pale coloured paving, the overall light has been increased in what would otherwise be a relatively dark space. Acer palmatum, bamboo and ferns with lush green foliage ensure this Japanese themed garden is calm and inviting . Inclusion of the clients' collection of Japanese garden statuary was part of the brief; positioning them within the raised planted beds increases their promimence. The Japanese theme is further encouraged by the mirrored glass feature mounted in granite.
Country Garden Outdoor Kitchen
Already enjoying using their outdoor kitchen in their Scottish estate, the client for this outdoor kitchen was understandably very keen to install another outdoor kitchen in their new Surrey garden. The ultimate Fire Magic BBQ grill is the centrepiece of this stylish outdoor kitchen - these premium grills offer incredible performance, sleek styling and a host of brand new, high-tech features, ensuring that cooking and eating outdoors has never tasted so good! With a warming draw underneath and plenty of cupboard space this outdoor kitchen is ideal for hosting parties. Another show stopper in this kitchen is the impressive Alfa Pizza wood-fired pizza oven; its 1m2 of cooking space ensures that pizza is regularly on the menu for all the family and friends! This striking outdoor kitchen was constructed with lightweight blockwork, all cladded with sawn slate strips to give a contemporary feel. A black granite worktop provides the finishing touch, providing a smooth sleek work-surface for any homeowner to be proud of.
