An extensive knowledge base, embracing all landscape activities, has contributed many beneficial working methods, enhancing our correlation between task and workmanship. In-house fabrication of metalwork and timber joinery (boardwalks, benches etc.) to client design is available creating statement pieces to make your project unique. Projects

Babbs Mill Lake

Location: Solihull
Budget: £116,753.00

Established to commemorate the Queens Silver Jubilee, an environmental facelift took place in the Diamond Jubilee year. Installation of a new reed filter bed over 1,000 mts deep, reinforced steel work to inlet and weir using concrete formwork. Weir refurbishment included de-canalisation of existing steam, a new stream cut into the site, reed bed outfall excavations and re-enforcing with a floating silt net utilised until the end of the works. Improvement of water quality within the lake and enhancement of the watercourse and wildlife area was achieved. Footpath works had already been undertake within the same location by HFN

Charlemont Farm Estate

Major refurbishment including demolition of external porches, creation of mobility entrances and all general external landscaping works around residential blocks which were permanently used by residents and public. Trenching and excavations with installation of foundation construction, drainage works with gulleys, manholes and soakaways. Clearance of ancillary items, kerbing, vegetation, lighting columns. Engineering services for external lighting, CCTV and REC cable reinstatement. New tarmac roads and car park construction with decorative paving layout edged with kerbing. Slab and cobble footpaths, fencing installation with HFN designed and fabricated in-house handrails. Street furniture, cultivation and planting works within the general estate area

Metro Corridor Links Cycleway

Location: Wolverhampton
Budget: £249,170.00

The Metro cycle route covers a distance of 1,673 metres. Extensive clearance works of car tyres, rubber mounds and various items of metalwork and timber were carried out before 953m of land drainage with catch pits and soakaways was installed with Terram and Tensar geogrid. Area of over 86m in length was raised to avoid narrow and muddy portion utilising adjacent sandy bank. Road plates installed for vehicle access over zone of mine shaft influence. Vehicle access/turning area with Grassblock and installation of maintenance gates. 4 motorcycle barriers set on the site keep the route free of motorized traffic. Soft works clearance with some planting and wild flower seed mix used. Keeping a 'commune with nature' environmental aspect.

Bleakhouse Library

Budget: £52,625.00

Following refurbishment within the library itself, a complete overhaul was designed for the outdoor space. Consultation had been undertaken between Landscape Architects, Library staff, Friends of the Library Community group and Wildlife Conservation Group to devise best concepts to obtain maximum benefit. Three areas were created to allow for a canopied seating area, a sensory garden with wicker sculpture on seating, copious planting and winding pathways. Additional textured surfaces throughout with the third area being a semi-private children's space screened, but with visibility through a dividing timber and metal work pergola fabricated in-house by HFN. Sign and steel lectern installed to be used for brass rubbing craft. Water pebble pool in the children's area to encourage tranquil activity with dragonfly bench and leaf seats. Natural elements were used extensively and the wildlife trust advised plants to enhance the senses by touch and smell. Local schools were going to use this area as an outdoor classroom. Friends of the Library produced sculpted plaques to be fitted in the garden.

Sycamore Green Adventure Park

Two phases of works within this warden and play workers park encouraging adventure play in a safe and secure environment. The remit included installation of a water feature, 6m high play tower incorporating slide, mound construction, tepee installation and the 'to order' refurbishment of an old boat into a cruiser complete with shark mouth painted bow and cabin set into a sandpit sea. Standard landscaping of drainage, footpath works, car park works and mounds were set around the site. Gate installation, paving, cycleway and large stainless storage units. Secondary works included refurbishment by HFN of a camouflage landrover, two motorcycles installed also camouflage and an amazing hobbit style woodland shelter designed and created by HFN. Since opening in 2010, the park has won eight local and national awards from a Civic Trust Council award and Mencap, to name two organisations.

Watford City Centre

Budget: £42,688.00

Major works carried out in the large town centre area of Watford included the planting of large standard trees within tree pits, aquatic planting and features in the refurbished pond and ground planting in grassed areas. Various tree planting methods were used, a raised pit 200mm above surface level was finished with silver grey resin bound gravel and edged in blue granite kerbs. The second variation was ground anchoring used with proprietary root barrier with sharp sand and gravel drainage layer, finished with dry aggregate scattered resin. The final option was ground planted including underground anchoring with drainage layer, but breaking up of the pit bottom to ensure root penetration. A large area of ground preparation was undertaken for mass planting, topsoil and mulching to increase cultivation properties. Within the pond works, underplanters were filled with soil, rocks, defining the planter edge, peep through the water's surface, root barrier was used to contain the different planting varieties to their designated area. Aquatics on site consisted of water lillies, deep marginals, floating and oxygenating plants. 1,365 shrubs, 49 large trees, 350 aquatics and 50 rocks were used. 4 years maintenance within the project will ensure good maturing on the site.
