About Horticon Ltd
Horticon Ltd was established in 1975 and has been a BALI member for over 40 years. We undertake all aspects of hard and soft landscaping and minor civils works throughout the north west, north Midlands, Yorkshire and north Wales. Our client base consists primarily of local authorities, groundwork trusts, housing associations and public bodies, although we also undertake works for main contractors, private businesses and individuals. We undertake a wide scope of works, including play areas, public realm works, heritage projects, sports pitch construction, external works, education establishments and environmental improvement works. We have an accredited ISO9001 quality management system, and we pride ourselves on offering a quality service. We strive to achieve customer satisfaction and this is evident from the high percentage of repeat business that we receive and our impressive portfolio of projects completed. We offer the skills and service to complete projects from £5,000 to £5m. Safety is of paramount importance and we are accredited by Acclaim and Constructionline. Projects
Springfield Park
The construction of a new public park adjacent to the Alder Hey Children's Hospital. The works involved the capping of the former demolition site and subsequent hard and soft landscaping works to create a park. The new facilities include extensive footpaths and carpark, a new play area, a sports field, a MUGA and general amenity areas including the creation of a drainage swale and associated soft landscaping.
Islington Park
The construction of a new park as part of the the City Centre Bee Network scheme. Works included site clearance followed by the installation of shared pedestrian and cycle paths, soft landscaped areas and new street furniture and lighting.
Bridgewater Canal
The Bridgewater Canal project was undertaken to upgrade and widen the Bridgewater Canal towpath to create a shared pedestrian and cycle path. The project was undertaken on 6 sites including Barton Road, Boothstown Canal Towpath, Dukes Drive Country Park, Hall Bank Road and Worsley Green and Barton Aqueduct. The project comprised of the construction of over 3 km of bitmac footpath finished in tar and chip surfacing, the installation of a knee rail at Worsley Green, the refurbishment of Barton Aqueduct Park and the construction of an overflow car park at Dukes Drive Country Park. Works included site clearance, excavations, drainage, sheet piling and installation of in-situ concrete retaining walls, installation of street lighting columns, bitmac surfacing, tar and chip surfacing, construction of a timber boardwalk, installation of fencing and street furniture and tree and shrub planting. All works were carried out by qualified, thoroughly trained and experienced craftsmen. Our operatives hold CSCS Cards, NPORS Plant Operator cards and Street Works Licences. We engaged a specialist Traffic Management company to implement the road closure on Barton Road.
Tiger Trail, Knowsley Safari Park
The Tiger Trail is a new habitat for Knowsley Safari Park's two Amur Tigers, sisters Bira and Sinda, and a fun visitor experience for their guests. Horticon were engaged as the Principal Contractor to construct the enclosure, which is over 10,000m2, and the adjoining visitor area.
Memorial Park
This Heritage Lottery funded project was undertaken to refurbish Memorial Park and improve the public facilities. Works included drainage installation, footpath construction and improvements throughout the park, replacement of footbridge, installation of new childrens play area and soft landscaping.
Ordsall Hall
This BALI Award winning Heritage Lottery funded scheme comprised the restoration of the listed building and the historic gardens. Our works proceeded over 3 phases. Phase 1 - Recreation of the former moat and tree planting. Phase 2 - Installation of ducting and drainage works Phase 3 - Hard works and soft landscaping including the creation of a formal planted garden and herb gardens.
