Projects
Swindon Station
Ultrascape's BS 7533 compliant mortar paving system has been used to deliver a modern and stylish forecourt outside Swindon railway station. The redevelopment has transformed what was previously a heavy traffic dominated area, into a prestigious pedestrian focused arrival space which features seating, planting, lighting and a millennium clock. Work was carried out by specialist civil engineering contractor, Britannia Construction and included the installation of 500 tonnes of high quality natural granite and Pennant Sandstone using Ultrascape's Pro-Bed HS fine bedding concrete, Flowpoint rapid setting grout and Pro-Prime slurry primer. Construction took place in 'live' conditions with train commuters still using the area to access the station. Flowpoint was the ideal choice as its rapid setting properties enable areas to be open to foot traffic in just 1 hour, keeping downtime and disruption to a minimum. This slurry method provides an easy method of grouting large areas, quickly. Ultrascape Pro-Bed HS provided a perfect bound base for the granite and stone setts. It can be laid up to 75mm in one pass, with greater depths achievable using successive layers. To promote bond, the supporting layer and setts were primed using Ultrascape's Pro-Prime which ensures full and even contact will be made with the aggregate particles as well as promoting adhesion to greater than 2N/mm as per the requirements of BS 7533.
Grand Central Station
Ultrascape's BS 7533 compliant mortar paving system has played a major role in helping to transform one of the UK's busiest train stations. The long awaited redevelopment of Birmingham New Street station has transformed what was previously a dark, overcrowded site into a prestigious gateway to the UK's second city. Work was carried out by one of the UK's premier concrete frame contractors, MPB Structures Ltd. It included reinstating existing station platforms as well as installing new structures, hardscaping around the station perimeter and the creation of Birmingham's version of the 'Spanish Steps.' The paving was installed using Ultrascape's BS 7533 compliant mortar paving system
Castle Green
UltraScape's fully compliant BS 7533 mortar paving system has been used on a £2.5 million scheme to redevelop the historic square of Castle Green, Taunton. The redevelopment has transformed the neglected centrepiece into a valuable civic space for events and markets whilst also showing off the town's Mediaeval Castle. The work included the removal of a car park, to create new public open space and a pedestrian foot bridge to access the Castle gardens. Over 2200m2 of West Pennine Gritstone was installed by specialist civil engineering contractor, Britannia Construction, using UltraScape's BS 7533 compliant Pro-Bed HS fine bedding concrete, Flowpoint rapid setting grout and Pro-Prime slurry primer.
Boscombe Precinct
UltraScape's BS 7533 mortar paving system has been used to rejuvenate a busy high street in Bournemouth as part of plans to redevelop Boscombe precinct. The £1.2 million scheme will create a "shared space" environment by redesigning pavement and road layout, improving street furniture as well as introducing cycle lanes and bus priority signals to open up the shopping area and encourage drivers, cyclists and pedestrians to use the area harmoniously. Bournemouth Borough Council specified UltraScape's BS 7533 compliant mortar paving system to install granite blocks and concrete slabs along Palmerston Road. The work was carried out by Building and Civil Engineering Company, P T Contractors Ltd with pedestrian access maintained at all times.
