Projects
St John's Wood
The scheme involved the landscaping of a large family garden for an extensive town house in London following major refurbishments of the building including a large basement extension. The design required exceptionally high standards and finishes to be in keeping with the architecture and interior fit out of the building. A generous natural stone terrace for dining and entertaining leads to a lawn area, large trees provide privacy and screen views to the clients mews apartment. Seamless glass balustrades set into the stone finishes protect two large light wells without detracting from the finishes and views into the garden. Large bronze planters have been used to great effect with semi mature multi-stemmed hornbeams providing a link between the scale of the imposing townhouse and the garden. A timber pergola walkway provides viewpoints and the design incorporates areas to showcase the clients love of art and sculpture including a bespoke water feature.
Highgate
The renovation of a large family garden in north London, York stone paving was used for terraces, paths and steps as well as pond and swimming pool copings. Sliced feature boulders of the same York stone were used as informal seating, the pond rill and a "jumping stone" for the swimming pool. Paving stones were carefully templated around the sliced boulders for a seamless finish. Large fruit trees and mature multi-stemmed Amelanchier were craned over the property and planted for instant impact and to define separate areas of the garden. Deep borders of mixed herbaceous planting softened the boundaries and provide a long season of interest.
Hyde Park
Reclaimed York stone paving was laid in a traditional running bond with varying course widths, all cut bespoke and hand dressed. A dining area was created under four large "roof top" pruned Mulberry trees, pleached Hornbeams were also used to provide privacy from neighbouring properties. A lawn area was created, edged with large herbaceous borders. A small productive area with raised beds in woven willow was also created allowing space to grow herbs and vegetables. The result is a stunning cottage garden in the heart of the city.
Kensington
We created an open space in the main garden for the children, with an entertaining area to the rear and a lower terrace in place of the existing steps. Our main constraint was the access; it was through our client's living room, and we had an enormous amount of soil to move through it, to create the garden. The result was a fresh and advantageous space. It combines Iroko screening, decking, John Cullen lighting and blue Moleanos Limestone. These contributed to a high-quality garden for the family.
Hampton Court
The redesign of this historic rose garden had to be treated with sensitivity. Traditional materials of riven York stone paving and handmade bricks blended perfectly with the building. Large beds were created and planted with mixed herbaceous plants and a wide variety of roses. These were intersected with wide paths of self-binding gravel. The result was a stunning garden with a long season of interest for the owners to wander and enjoy the scent.
