BALI Registered Designer Marian Boswall MBALI MSGD of Marian Boswall Landscape Architects has been crowned with the prestigious Grand Award at the 7th annual Society of Garden Designers’ Awards 2019 which also saw tremendous wins for fellow BALI Registered Designer members in their respective categories.

Marian, whose Large Residential Garden, Reighton Wood, wowed judges with its exquisite planting with ‘texture, atmosphere and a great synergy of materials’, went on to win the coveted Grand Award at the annual SGD Awards in front of over 400 guests at The Landmark Hotel in London on Friday 1 February.

The garden was built by BALI Registered Contractor Donovan Landscapes with materials supplied by BALI Registered Affiliates Palmstead Nurseries, How Green Nursery, CED Stone Group and Johnsons Wellfield Quarries.

Commenting on her win, Marian Boswall MBALI said ‘It’s a huge honour to win the Grand Award amongst so many talented designers. The project was great team work from start to finish, with wonderful clients who understood my vision, and fantastic contractors BALI Registered Donovan Landscapes.’

Other notable wins for BALI Registered Designers included Tony Woods MBALI MSGD of Garden Club London, who took top prize for his design of Merchant Square Floating Pocket Park in the Public or Commercial Outdoor Space category. The scheme, which also won a BALI National Landscape Award Principal Award in 2017, impressed judges who stated it ‘satisfied the brief on every level and was beautifully executed.’ Celebrations continued when Woods was also awarded the top prize for his Jam Factory podium garden design in the Roof Garden category, also a BALI National Landscape Award 2018 winning scheme, making it two out of two during the evening’s ceremony.

BALI Registered Designer James Scott MBALI MSGD of The Garden Company, who designed the stunning Laurel Cottage for a Small Residential Garden, also took the highest accolade in this fiercely contested category.

BALI Registered Designer John Wyer MBALI FSGD of BALI Registered Contractor Bowles & Wyer won the Healing or Learning Garden category, taking the trophy for his design of the Addenbrookes Outpatients garden which was also built by Bowles & Wyer who won a BALI National Landscape Award in 2018 for the same project.

BALI’s Chief Executive, Wayne Grills, commented; ‘My sincerest congratulations to all of our BALI Registered Designer members who received an award at the SGD Awards on Friday. With so many members receiving top honours, it is encouraging to see that their hard work, commitment, knowledge, skill and quality craftmanship has once again raised the standards of landscaping in the UK.’
