Brambledown begin £650k landscape works at services off the M1

Brambledown is a BALI Registered Contractor member and offers multi-national, award-winning, commercial hard and soft landscape construction with all other associated external works.

The green light has been given to begin £650k worth of landscape works at the “New Concept” motorway services off the M1 in Leeds.

Leeds Skelton Service Station, at Junction 45 of the M1, will cost £60 million to build and include an innovative food court building which will provide a wide range of food and ancillary retail outlets, together with a business centre, fuel filling station and a 100-bedroom hotel.

The new building will have a “living green roof” which will tie into the new and natural landscape which is being constructed by Brambledown.

The bright and spacious building interior also includes a new visitor centre, community space and an upper-floor viewing deck overlooking Skelton Lake and Gardens.

By improving footpath and cycle connectivity to and around Skelton Lake, the development will also form part of a ‘Green Corridor’ linking the Grade 1 listed Temple Newsam House and Parklands to the north of the MSA, with Rothwell Country Park.

The site is located at the Gateway to the Leeds Enterprise Zone and Extra’s investment in the Leeds City Region will create over 700 new job opportunities throughout its construction and operation.

Paul Curry, Director of Brambledown Landscape Services said: “It is fabulous to be part of such an innovative scheme. Leeds Skelton Service Station will provide a strategic gateway development to showcase Leeds and the surrounding area, and our clients believe that this will set a new Standard for Motorway Service Areas in the UK.”

The scheme, run by investor and operator, Extra MSA Group, is anticipated to create some 300 FTE Permanent new jobs and is due to open during the summer of 2019.

Investors claim it will also significantly improve road safety within the section of the motorway network between the existing MSAs (Motorway Service Area) at M62 Hartshead Moor, M1 Woolley Edge and A1M Wetherby.
