British Sugar TOPSOIL joins the BENNIE family

Accredited Supplier British Sugar TOPSOIL has entered into an exclusive distribution agreement with Boughton Loam, a leading topsoil supplier in the Midlands that has shared values for providing premium natural soil products across the UK. The agreement will see Boughton take over the Topsoil Sales & Marketing operations for British Sugar from the end of October 2024; becoming the exclusive route to market for the Topsoil product range.

British Sugar TOPSOIL, a business of British Sugar PLC, is one of the UK’s largest suppliers of quality topsoil products to the landscape and amenity industries. TOPSOIL’s single and consistent source of topsoil is uniquely derived from the prime arable soil adhered to the 8.1m of beets delivered to its 4 processing factories at Bury St Edmunds, Cantley, Newark and Wissington.

Boughton, part of The Bennie Group, has become a leading supplier of natural soil and landscaping products since the business’ inception in the 1980s. Based in Kettering Northamptonshire with production facilities across the region the business has been growing rapidly over the last couple of years. As a market leader and advocate for natural soils, Boughton is one of the few topsoil producers that use certified as dug natural topsoil in its products. In addition, the team’s experience and understanding of landscaping and horticultural applications sets it apart from competition.

Bringing these two businesses together will see the best of both brands flourish and enrich the already strong reputations; with customers benefiting from greater efficiency and product availability. The topsoil production operations of British Sugar will remain distinct from this agreement with no changes. The existing British Sugar TOPSOIL sales team will transfer to Boughton with both brands and product portfolios continuing as they are. Boughton and British Sugar TOPSOIL have shared values for producing premium and natural soil products that exceed customer requirements. Given the huge synergies of both businesses it is very much business as usual as the partnership gets underway.

Matthew Ayres (Group MD, Bennie) and Nick Haines (Head of Commercial Operations, British Sugar) both commented,

"We see this as a huge strategic partnership that will ensure both brands grow and support our customers. This is an exciting time as we aim to bring together the best of two great businesses and enrich our already strong reputations, as we continue to deliver exceptional customer solutions and provide our customers with premium natural soil products across the UK."

Natalie, Kim, Grace and Maddie (British Sugar TOPSOIL Sales team) commented,

"We are looking forward to joining Boughton and combining our years of experience and industry knowledge, as we continue to work with our valued customers to deliver industry leading topsoil products and customer service."
