Get in the Earth Day spirit with two new sustainability-focused National Landscape Awards categories
With Earth Day just around the corner on Tuesday 22nd April, the British Association of Landscape Industries (BALI) is encouraging businesses with projects that demonstrate excellent levels of sustainability, biodiversity and regeneration to gain the recognition they deserve by entering the BALI National Landscape Awards.
To reflect the evolving shape of the industry, BALI have introduced two exciting new categories for the 2025 Awards - each designed to highlight and reward excellence in sustainable landscaping.
These categories – “Repurposed development” and “Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) Scheme” – along with returning ones such as “Regeneration Scheme - Under £500k” and “Regeneration Scheme - Over £500k”, celebrate those in the industry who are leading the charge in climate-conscious design and construction. These additions reflect the increasing demand for landscapes that not only look beautiful but also respect and restore the natural world.
The launch of these new categories comes at a significant moment, mirrored by global efforts around Earth Day to encourage more sustainable practices across industries. The theme of this year’s Earth Day, "Planet vs. Plastics," underscores the importance of sustainable material use – something the landscaping industry is uniquely positioned to influence through smart design and long-term ecological thinking.
The BALI Awards' commitment to sustainability is further strengthened by the announcement of Origin Enterprises as the new headline sponsor on a three-year agreement. A leading provider of sustainable land management solutions, Origin brings with them a deeply rooted philosophy of environmental stewardship. Their support reinforces the importance of sustainability at every stage of the creation process, from planning and plant selection to ongoing maintenance and biodiversity enhancement.
“We’re proud to support the BALI National Landscape Awards and to champion those who are innovating in the realm of sustainable landscape practices,” commented TJ Kelly, Divisional Managing Director for Living Landscapes at Origin Enterprises. “At Origin Enterprises, shaping sustainable land use is central to our mission. Our partnership with BALI allows us to support and celebrate the professionals who are shaping the landscapes of tomorrow."
The BALI Awards have long been regarded as the benchmark for excellence in landscaping, and with these new categories, they’re poised to further showcase the forward-thinking attitude of the industry as a whole.
