How to support your worker's mental health in the workplace
One in four people in the UK will experience some form of mental health issue at some point during their life. This can be a difficult time in your personal life but taking into work consideration creates even more pressure for your mental health as well as physical health.
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has pointed out that not only can mental health issues can be stimulated due to the stress of work or can be exacerbated through the work pressures. These pressures can combine to create a major problem if pre-existing mental health conditions exist which causes even more health risks. However, the HSE has updated their guidance on how line managers can support employees and provide resources to further help and advice.
The HSE further advises on work-related stress and the methods on tackling it through six key areas of work design. These six areas: demands, control, support, relationships, role and change can affect stress levels, as well as offering advice on how employers can protect themselves from stress in the workplace.
