HSE cracking down on dust on construction sites

01 Oct 2020 | Health & Safety

A press release sent to BALI earlier this week by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has advised of a month-long inspection initiative throughout October, during which inspectors will be targeting construction businesses throughout the UK to ensure their practices meet the required standard.

Inspections will focus on respiratory risks and occupational lung disease and scrutinise the measures businesses have in place to protect workers lungs from asbestos, silica and wood dust. When conducting visits inspectors will look for evidence of employers and workers knowing the risks, planning their work and using the right controls.

Other areas of concern, including the appropriate implementation of COVID-secure control measures, will also be assessed.

The HSE website provides free access to a number of guides which outline the measures employers and employees must take to protect them from the harmful effects of silica dust. Please click here for a free guide.
