HSE issue improved guidance on managing health and safety

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has updated the guidance provided on the HSE website, to make it easier for stakeholders to understand what they must do to comply with health and safety law.  The improvements are based on research which suggested the previous guidance was hard to understand and complex.

The main improvements include a brief introduction to managing health and safety. This will help stakeholders:

1. understand what managing health and safety means  
2. find the right guidance for their business
3. use the Plan, Do, Check, Act approach to manage health and safety in a way that is simple and proportionate to risks, while still complying with the law

A new managing health and safety collection page will help stakeholders find the right guidance whether they are a:  

1. a small or low-risk business
2. leader or manager overseeing their organisation’s arrangements 
3. director or board member leading on health and safety
