James Scott awarded a Fellowship by the SGD
James Scott MBALI, MD and Principal Designer at Accredited Contractor, The Garden Company, has been awarded a Fellowship by the Society of Garden Designers. The SGD Council unanimously voted to make James a Fellow in recognition of his contribution to the garden design profession and to the Society.
James commented:
"I am delighted and humbled at the same time. This is a great honour for me as I have always held great respect for the position of Fellow of the SGD. I look forward very much to contributing to the Society in the future in any way that I can".
Following studies at Merrist Wood College and a spell working at a design-and-build practice in North London, James founded The Garden Company in Hertfordshire in 1991. Since then, he and his team of designers and landscapers have been bringing clients’ dreams to life with bespoke, handcrafted gardens.
James is highly committed to sustainable gardens that celebrate nature. With an impressive track record of winning national awards, he was named by Pro Landscaper last year as one of the Top 25 Most Influential people in the industry. James attributes his love of beautiful green spaces to the time he spent as a child in his grandparents’ rambling garden in the Cotswolds.
He feels that often in his design work, he is seeking to recreate the sense of adventure and joy that he felt as a boy spending time outdoors. Throughout his career, James has been actively involved with the design profession and is keen to promote opportunities for professional career development as a designer.
He served on the SGD Council for six years, during which time he was responsible for the Annual Awards and helped establish Registered Practice membership. He has recently joined the SGD’s Adjudication Panel for new Members. As a design-and-build business owner, James is also keen to support a positive collaboration between designers and landscapers and is a Designer Member of BALI and a member of its Adjudication Panel for new Designer Members.
