
New plant import rules now apply

As of 1 January 2022, new rules apply when specific items are imported from the EU, Liechtenstein, and Switzerland.
Since 1 January 2021:
All high-priority plants and plant products require pre-notification and to be accompanied by a PC, with import checks taking place at PoDs.
Since 1st January 2022:
- All high-priority plants and plant products continue to require pre-notification and to be accompanied by a PC, with import checks taking place at PoDs.
- All notifiable produce and cut flowers from the EU (excluding Ireland), Liechtenstein and Switzerland, require pre-notification but not a PC.
From 1 July 2022:
- All plants, plant products and other objects, other than those goods listed as de-regulated must be accompanied by a PC.
- All plants, plant products and other objects categorised not listed in the January 2021 and January 2022 changes (Article 73 goods) will require pre-notification, but only if instructed to do so upon submitting a Customs import declaration.
- High-priority and notifiable produce and cut flowers will continue to require pre-notification.
- They will be subject to risk-based identity and physical checks at BCPs or Control Points (CPs).
- Import checks of high-priority plants and plant products move from PoDs to BCPs or CPs.
