Renewable energy in garden design and landscaping
Date: Monday 24 June 2024
Time: 5pm - 6pm
Venue: Digital CPD via Zoom
Cost: Free
Save the date for a 1 hour kick start seminar on Renewable Energy in Garden Design and Landscaping on the evening of Monday 24 June.
Energy use runs through our designs, whether for lighting steps or uplighting trees, heating (and lighting) home offices, greenhouses, swimming pools, providing electricity for outdoor kitchens, robot lawnmowers, irrigation systems, power tools and more. The carbon legacy of our work includes its use of energy into the future. This can be a daunting prospect but since we dig up gardens and knock down buildings before we make it all beautiful again, it's the perfect opportunity for renewable energy sources to be installed - if we have had those discussions in advance with our clients.
The speaker will offer an overview of the renewable energy options available for us when designing and landscaping, as well as a peek at what's on the horizon in this sector - and we are keeping plenty of time for your questions.
Who should attend?
This kick start seminar is for anyone who might wish to include renewable energy in projects for private clients, charities or community organisations, including:
- anyone who knows a lot about renewable energy: please attend as this is also an opportunity to bounce ideas off our expert speaker, and share your thoughts to help make sure we develop the best possible courses in the future
- anyone who knows a bit about renewable energy but wouldn't feel confident in advising their client on what is best: this is your opportunity to ask lots of questions, (or just listen while you tidy up your desk at the end of the day!).
- everyone who feels they don't know all that much about renewable energy: this is a great place to start, and even if you don't have questions during the talk please feel free to write in afterwards as questions occur so we can shape future courses to meet your needs.
The event is for both garden designers and landscapers, with the intention that we learn together and are on the same page when discussing the possibilities for including renewable energy sources within the design and build of the garden.
The speaker
Ollie Pendered has an overview of the renewable energy sector at the regional, local and national level. His experience is relevant to designers and landscapers working with private clients and those working with charities, and community initiatives. Ollie sits on the Government's Contact Group for Net Zero and Local Energy and is a board member of Community Energy England. He founded Community Energy South as a social enterprise to support communities to decarbonise and work towards educating them to embrace low carbon energy and promote community ownership of energy, and has since overseen the foundation of over 60 of these community energy groups across the South East.
