Robert Goodwill MP to replace Eustice as new DEFRA Minister
The MP for Scarborough Robert Goodwill MP has replaced George Eustice MP who stood down last week in protest to the delay of Brexit. Former Immigration Minister Robert Goodwill MP has been appointed Defra’s Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food.
The MP replaces Eustice who stood down last week in protest of Prime Minister Theresa May’s promise to allow MP’s a vote to delay Brexit.
Robert Goodwill MP has prior experience of horticultural issues having given evidence on overseas worker grower employment challenges during an EFRA committee inquiry in 2017 when he sat alongside George Eustice MP answering EFRA committee members’ questions.
Robert Goodwill MP served as a whip and the Department of Transport Minister under David Cameron and became promoted to Immigration Officer.
Congratulations have come from the agriculture sector with NFU President Minette Batters who said: "I would like to congratulate Robert Goodwill on his appointment as the new Agriculture Minister and I am looking forward to working with him at such a critical time for Britain’s food and farming industry."
