Tihill appointment strengthens landscape team
BALI Registered Contractor member Tilhill Forestry is expanding its rapidly growing Landscaping business with the appointment of Brian Hawtin, a landscaper with many years’ experience working in a wide range of disciplines.
His appointment will take Tilhill Forestry into new markets and help deliver quality and consistency to the landscaping team. Brian will be finding new opportunities and pursuing fresh streams of income while managing existing contracts.
Of joining Tilhill Forestry, Brian said: ''What I hope to bring to Tilhill is a wealth of experience across the landscape field, an in-house design resource and the ability to produce award-winning landscapes.''
Originally from Sutton Coldfield in the West Midlands, Brian started working in gardens in the early 1980s before moving to Surrey where he went ran a successful garden and landscaping business. In 1996 he studied Garden Design at Greenwich University and graduated in 1999 with an honours degree.
Brian has lectured at Hadlow College, Tonbridge, Kent, and worked increasingly in the high-end domestic design and build landscape market both as a landscape designer and a contracts manager. Earlier this year he was awarded Chartership of the Landscape Institute.
During the past 15 years, Brian has delivered a varied portfolio of projects in the Royal Parks, supervised the planting of the Bombay Sapphire Distillery Greenhouse designed by Thomas Heatherwick, built and maintained a number of BALI Award-winning projects. He has also managed RHS Show Gardens at Chelsea and Hampton Court winning several medals including ‘Gold’ and ‘Best In’ category awards.
Brian said: ''The ultra-high net worth industry is based on confidentiality and as such, I can only wish that I could detail some of the fascinating private projects I have been involved with. Suffice to say that I have been fortunate enough to work in some incredible places for some amazing clients.''
Last year the opportunity arose for Brian to project manage and help design gardens for Alan Titchmarsh’s ITV series ‘Love Your Garden’ and ‘Love your Home and Garden’.
Brian said: “These gardens are genuinely assembled in five days for some inspirational recipients and built to high specification, contrary to popular belief. A constant balance is struck between the process of building and planting the garden, and the filming of the programme and the final afternoon of construction and filming is both fraught and rewarding in equal measure.”
Tilhill Forestry’s landscaping team looks forward to a successful future fully utilising the experience that Brian brings to the team.
