The Aesculus hippocastanum TREEVOLUTION 'Cyrilles Clean'PBR has been discovered in the municipality Maasmechelen(B) by Cyrille Vanbelle, former head of the green department. Approximately 20 years ago, this horse chestnut stood out because it had virtually no affected leaves, unlike the surrounding 100 year old trees which were all affected by the chestnut leafminer moth.
After the discovery, Van den Berk Nurseries had the cultivar examined at the CVPO and breeder's rights obtained. The nursery is now busy with further developments propagation of this promising tree. Although the trees are still limited available at the moment, this discovery offers a hopeful perspective for municipalities and green managers who are struggling with the consequences of the chestnut leafminer moth.
